Our Eyes Are Water Portals: A Somatic Musing

Something I have been fascinated with lately is the way that I feel after gazing into water. Through my life I've clocked many hours sitting in nature, getting lost in the way that wild water moves and carries light.

This accidentally became a practice for me, from which I have found so much peace, clarity, and healing.

Recently I had a thought while gazing into the ocean:

"Perhaps wiithout knowing it, even the industrious element of humanity reveres water too."

I noticed how many man-made treasures, like glass, windows, doors, mirrors, and shiny reflective surfaces are made in the image of water.

And we use them in a similar way...we gaze wistfully through a window for light and reflection, nourish our bodies with water drunk through glass, or we look into the mirror at moments of soul-searching...when we most need to see ourselves.

Maybe we've built these into our lives to remind us of where we all began, surrounded by water.

Many of us are familiar with the old adage "the eyes are the window to the soul."

I feel the same way about water, and wonder if perhaps water is a window to the soul of the universe.

A few years ago, I began to muse about our eyes as portals of water.

We can often see how someone actually is when we see their eyes...

For example, if someone is smiling and saying they are well, but their eyes reveal that may not be true.

Have you seen this in someone?

Or felt it in yourself?

We can also feel how we truly are by noticing the quality of our own eyes.

Sometimes we push through our eyes. reaching them out towards the world, and straining our eye muscles to "move forward."

Sometimes we meet the world with glazed-over eyes, like when we are giving a substance, story or inner conflict more presence than life.

But when we soften our eyes to receive the world, we begin to see it differently.

Sometimes I go to the wild water to reset my eyes. If racing thoughts are crowding and overwhelming my awareness, I rest my eyes on water until they soften into the rhythmic current of life's organic pulse.

I feel like receiving water through the eyes relaxes the body and softens the heart.

I wonder if this is why so often gazing into water restores us to balance.

In the Aura Toning Cleanse, we have been working with the eyes somatically through water in our chalice, the water in our eyes, and the water in our bodies, and it has been profound seeing how transformative this can be.

While we know how healing it is to be seen, seeing the world through soulful and gentle eyes changes everything, and this is a feeling I would love everyone to experience often.

If you feel called to join the beautiful group of soulful seers, I would love to welcome you to The Spring Aura Toning Cleanse cohort. A one-time thank you rate for the spring session (see below) expires on March 1 before prices go up. Read here to see if it may be right for you.
